Jaya stood in the Phoenixspire throne room by the left side of the long hall, her eyes dancing across one of the many paintings they had managed to restore from before the tyrants. It depicted a warrior wielding a sword of blue flame standing ready against an army of red demons. A crown was visible upon his head; the same crown Jaya now wore. It was obvious to her this was meant to be her father, although her researchers had deduced that the artwork was more a depiction of legend rather than a true historical account of the past. Nevertheless she enjoyed looking at it, especially today when it was so relevant.

Gavin Reeve had been invited to Phoenixspire by royal summons; meaning a fancy letter sealed with the sigil of a Phoenix wearing a halo arrived to him by hand. The matter at hand was undisclosed, but Jaya's insistence on his acceptance was clear.

So Jaya stood still, adorned in a flowing white silk dress, staring at her father's legacy as she waited...

Gavin's leather-clad figure soon appeared through the doors to the throne room. He had earlier been summoned to a private meeting with Jaya which understandably enough, piqued his curiousity. He rarely ever interacted with the Almis family despite sharing a common history with them to an extent.

As he walked down the long hall, his gaze shifted from painting to painting, taking in the decorated interior of the throne room before he finally approached her. He took in her appearance for a second before speaking.
"I got your letter... something you need to tell me about?" He asked.

"That and I need a favour of sorts," Jaya tilted her head slightly, wondering how she was going to put it exactly. "Please, follow me." She nodded behind her and began walking that way, heading for a passage that head east and downwards from the throne room. They went through stone corridors well-lit by torches, turning every so often as they seemed to be headed deep into the palace.

"How've you been though?" Jaya asked, giving a smile his way as they walked side by side. "I hope my summons haven't distracted you from something important."

"Not bad, aside from a few recurring nightmares," Gavin replied. "I guess I should say that I've been a bit busy with a few things. Trying to... find out some stuff." He continued as he looked around at the torches that lit up the corridors. "...not that it's led anywhere though."

He looked at her. "What about you? Everything going good?"

"Sounds troubling," Jaya frowned with some concern towards Gavin, passively directing their path down a flight of stone steps that winded beneath the palace. "Everything's going well." She smiled somewhat oddly, making it quite obvious she was withholding some kind of information on the matter. Nevertheless she walked swiftly ahead, turning finally to a large wooden door on their right.

They were now deep below the centre of the palace, at the end of a series of winding paths Jaya had memorised over her time as Queen.
"The reason I summoned you is in here," She knocked a finger against the wood of the door. "I hope it's not too much to ask of you... or him..."

Jaya awaited his reply, trying to discern how comfortable he might be on the matter. Either way, the Ghost Rider might have felt what lay within the room; a large concentration of guilty souls.

"Him...?" Gavin echoed before suddenly turning his head sharply towards the door. Whatever or whoever lay beyond it was... drenched with guilt. Either that or there were multiple individuals behind it.
The fury inside him fired up and he could feel its head growing in his chest as he fought against the inner urges to tear the door down and burn everything he would find.

Gavin wasn't without strong willpower however. He had been the Ghost Rider for a decade now and he knew what it took to maintain control. He breathed slowly and made sure not to concentrate on what Zarathos had sensed. He then waited for Jaya to continue, eager to see what was behind the wooden door.

Pressing her index finger against the door again, the whole wood making up it's structure shined with an eery magical glow. No doubt an enchantment was being dropped from the door, allowing Jaya to push it open and reveal the inside.
"Luckily the tyrants who took over after my father couldn't access this room, but now I can it needs to be dealt with." She sounded concerned as the room came into view.

A large lantern-like glass chamber hung in the center of a circular room, glowing green and white in turn. Upon closer inspection it was clear that the glowing was caused by a hurricane-like effect inside the glass, that of hundreds of souls writhing around within it's containment. They screamed and bashed against the glass, but it was magically contained. Closing the door behind them, Jaya took a deep breath.

"In the height of my father's power he used to feed from this, sort of like a power source for himself." Her head shook, obviously disapproving of the method. "They're all guilty and corrupt souls, which doesn't help me at all. Blightslayer constantly shudders, longing to purge them all, and I dare not risk breaking the blade in doing so."

"But please, if it's too much to ask I can find another way." Jaya set her eyes upon Gavin, awaiting his reply.

"You want me to destroy them." Gavin said. He looked at the glass that contained hundreds of guilty-ridden souls inside the glass. How they screamed and shouted for escape in fury. "You want it to consume them." He continued, staring at the glass.

This wasn't the first time he had seen something like this. Back of Armageddon's fortress, months after his attempted siege on Earth, the UNSC had custody over the floating city until it was attacked by the Demonic Crusade. They had successfully made it to the power core of the fortress - a large container bigger than this one containing something far worse - The Vengeance. A fragment of Zarathos that resembled his rage, shed during his torture, locked up inside the container to be used as a power source. And that's how strong The Vengeance's rage was, enough to power the entire fortress. Constantly thriving, constantly boiling and never ceasing. The demons had released The Vengeance onto the UNSC in an attempt to weaken them, and surely enough nothing could stand against it - except Gavin himself. And now The Vengeance remained trapped inside a soul crystal that was worn around his neck.

"I'll do it," He said. His face burnt and peeled away, as did the rest of the flesh covering his entire body as flames sprout out from beneath. Within seconds, all that was left standing was the fiery skeleton that all recognised as the Ghost Rider.

Jaya nodded silently in response, swallowing an amount of fear as she stepped back from the fiery display of his transformation. She moved back against the wall on the left, casting her eyes towards the glass. Once she had braced herself and whispered a spell of protection in preparation, she raised a singular hand towards the lantern and clenched her fist.

The act of her bloodline commanding the reliquary caused it to shudder and split slightly at the front. Within it was clear to see the souls were becoming more agitated and active at the prospect of leaving their containment at last. Once Jaya gave a concerned look at Gavin, ensuring he was ready, she released the bindings on the glass, splitting it wide open.

Countless souls shot out at a blinding speed, rushing through and around the room like a forming tornado. Their snapped and screamed at the two of them, hoping to tear them apart with their psychic attacks. Jaya kept herself within a shield of holy light, watching through half-closed eyes as the other souls headed straight for the Ghost Rider.

The presence of the sheer amount of guilty souls inside the same room as him caused the Ghost Rider to be overcome with an insatiable, crazed lust for vengeance.

The intensity of the flames emitting from the Ghost Rider increased as they grew in size. The souls threw themselves at him, attacking him psychically. Their attacks only served to infuriate him further and further however.

The Ghost Rider stood still until one soul made the mistake of drifting too close. The Ghost Rider's arm shot out and grabbed the soul by the throat, despite it being corporeal in nature. The soul was at first surprised at his ability to even touch it, but then quickly became wrought with fear when it realised what was going to happen. The Ghost Rider channeled a burst of flame down his arm, through his hand and into the soul that he had restrained, burning it into nothingness.

As the psychic attacks from the other souls persisted, the Ghost Rider's anger grew and he finally began to throw balls of ethereal flame arbitrarily around the room, catching a few souls and burning them as well. Soon the balls of fire were replaced by hoses of flame shot forth from both of his hands, sweeping over the room and burning through each soul much quicker than before. Fire also eventually shot out from his mouth to add to the chaos that he was now causing against the guilty souls that tried in vain to retaliate. Despite his rapid increase in rage however, the Ghost Rider still had enough sense to avoid hitting Jaya's shield of holy light.

Eventually, the rage and lust inside him increased so much that he stopped hosing completely, and instead began to clench his fists tight. He looked over to Jaya and from his mouth shot a long chain that wrapped around her shield. He then went back to preparing his final blow. Building up more and more energy within himself through the excess of rage that still persisted, the Ghost Rider began to levitate upwards due to the sheer power that ran through his body now. With a roar up to the ceiling, he spread his arms wide and sent out a massive burst of fire that instantly incinerated every single guilty soul in the room, with Jaya's shield being protected by the layer of armour that he had supplied it with.

He dropped back down and the chain fell away from her shield as the Ghost Rider breathed heavily, the rage calming but still not gone completely. He looked around the room to confirm that he had finished the job, before allowing himself to relax.

Jaya watched in awe at the spectacle before her. The Ghost Rider tearing through souls in a variety of ways was something not many people saw she imagined, and so up until her view was obscured by the armouring at the end she took in every second of it. When it was finally over and the chain had retracted from her shield, she dropped the holy energy and stepped out from the wall. Checking for herself that the job was done, and finding the view of an empty room and lantern, she then smiled at Gavin.

"Thank you," Jaya placed a reassuring hand on his arm, checking that he was okay after the ordeal. "There's something I need to tell you, and ask you." Her hand then moved towards the door, opening it and offering that they exit. After all, she imagined they'd want to be rid of that room as soon as possible.

"I'm having a child," Jaya said as they began to walk back to the main hall. "Which is great of course, but it has a strong blood and ancestry. The child will be in great danger."

"What you just did there, and everything I saw against the Starforger alongside my father's stories. Well they prove that you're a righteous man and a capable guardian. When the time comes and my child is in danger. I'd like you to be it's godfather."

The fire died down and his flesh began to grow back. Once he had fully resumed his human appearance, Gavin looked down at her hand and then at her, nodding in assurance that he was fine. He listened to her talk and upon the revelation that she was having a child, his eyes widened slightly in surprise. He let her finish talking before allowing a moment of silence to pass as he pondered on what she had said and requested.

"Righteous isn't the word for a person like me," Gavin began. On one side, his personal quest was not over and there was still so much he had yet to find out about himself. Where was Mephistopheles? When would he appear next? What was it that his predecessors were made to do, tricked against their own will? What could be done to prepare for in the event Mephistopheles returned? However on the other side, Jaya was one of the purest individual's he had ever known. Never had he ever witnessed her falter, nor had he seen her strive for something that was wrong... which meant that her request held more value to him than most other things.
"I accept." He finally agreed.
